What is it?
+

The Icebloc is an eco friendly alternative to the straw, that's designed to hold the ice and garnish back from your lips and make your drink swiggable.

What's it made of?
+

It's moulded from a bioplastic called CPLA, which is produced from corn starch and therefore 100% compostable. We also have a stainless steel version and a wheat stubble waste version coming soon.

What problem is it solving?
+

Ice can get in the way of a good cold drink, especially if you’ve got sensitive teeth, don’t like the taste of frozen water or just like a good swig.

How does it work?
+

It simply slides onto the edge of your glass and can be easily removed. And our clever design means one size fits all glasses!

Is it better than straw?
+

Yes! Drinks taste better when you drink from the rim of the glass rather than a straw, as most of the flavour comes from the drink’s aroma.

Why are straws bad?
+

Plastic straws damage the environment. Paper straws aren't much better because they are made of trees and are still single use. Besides they go soggy anyway.

Is the Icebloc environmentally friendly?
+

Yes. It's designed to be re-usable, as it's easy to rinse and dishwasher safe. But it's also made of plants and compostable. It also takes 65% less energy to make than oil based plastic. That's a triple win!

How many times can it be re-used?
+

The bioplastic version can be re-used at least 30 times, and the stainless steel version can be used indefinitely.

How long does it take to compost?
+

It completely biodegrades in commercial compost in 90 days, and 180 days in home food waste

Does it fit all glasses?
+

Our clever design means one size fits most glasses. It won't fit glasses with very thick rims and champagne flutes.

How do you clean it?
+

It doesn't touch your lips, so it can be just rinsed under the tap - and you don't need any fiddly pipe cleaners like those re-usabe straws. You can even put it in the dishwasher.

Is it dishwasher safe?
+

Unlike normal PLA which melts at 50C, our CPLA corn starch bio-plastic version melts at 85C and so can withstand dishwasher temperatures

Is it food and liquid safe?
+

Yes, it's food safe, and the soy based ink we use makes it liquid safe.

Can it be branded?
+

Yes, you can either print on it in soy ink, or stamp/emboss it which is much cheaper than printing but has a high one-off charge for a die.

Can it be printed on?
+

Yes, you can print on either side in 1 to 3 colours, though you have to pay extra for each colour.

Where can I get one?
+

We're just about selling them in bags of 6 or 20 on Amazon and other outlets. Some drinks companies and bars are giving them away for free.

Where are they made?
+

The bioplastic version is made in China and the stainless steel version in India?

Who invented it?
+

" A mad English engineer called Adrian Potter, who liked to swig his drinks, invented it in 1983. But then waited 36 years before launching."
